Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy Formal sector workers may soon have own pension accounts with EPFO The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is planning to amend its existing Employees Pension Scheme, 1995 by introducing contribution-based pension accounts for new subscribers soon, as per a media report said.

The proposal will be discussed during the meeting of the EPFO’s central board of trustees (CBT) scheduled on 9 September 2020.

Under the defined contribution system, each member has an individual pension account and the benefits admissible to the member are linked to the contribution received in the said account. Currently, members’ EPS contribution goes to a pooled account, rather than individual accounts. 

Also, irrespective of how much money a subscriber has deposited towards their pension account, pension is paid at retirement based on a fixed formula and not their share of contribution. The move will help high-income group workers get higher pension and is aimed at making the pension fund of the EPFO, which is in deficit, more sustainable

 

भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था की निगरानी के लिए केंद्र औपचारिक क्षेत्र के श्रमिकों के पास जल्द ही ईपीएफओ के साथ स्वयं के पेंशन खाते हो सकते हैं कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि संगठन (EPFO) मिडिया की एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, जल्द ही नए ग्राहकों के लिए योगदान-आधारित पेंशन खातों की शुरुआत करके अपनी मौजूदा कर्मचारी पेंशन योजना, 1995 में संशोधन करने की योजना बना रहा है। 

इस प्रस्ताव पर 9 सितंबर 2020 को ईपीएफओ के केंद्रीय न्यासी बोर्ड (सीबीटी) की बैठक के दौरान चर्चा की जाएगी। परिभाषित अंशदान प्रणाली के तहत, प्रत्येक सदस्य के पास एक व्यक्तिगत पेंशन खाता है और सदस्य के लिए स्वीकार्य लाभ प्राप्त योगदान से जुड़े हुए हैं। 

 

वर्तमान में, उक्त खाते में सदस्यों का ईपीएस योगदान अलग-अलग खातों के बजाय एक पूलित खाते में जाता है। साथ ही, इसके बावजूद कि किसी ग्राहक ने अपने पेंशन खाते में कितना पैसा जमा किया है, पेंशन का भुगतान एक निश्चित फॉर्मूले के आधार पर किया जाता है, न कि अंशदान के रूप में, इस कदम से उच्च आय वर्ग के श्रमिकों को उच्च पेंशन प्राप्त करने में मदद मिलेगी और इसका उद्देश्य ईपीएफओ का पेंशन फंड अधिक टिकाऊ बनाना है, जो घाटे में है।
