Supreme Court Latest New: No Regular Rearing at Supreme Court for Now, Committee of seven Judges to Take a Call After Court Reopens on 6 July

Even as the COVID-19 pandemic persists, a committee of Supreme Court judges has decided that there will be no physical hearings for the time being.

The seven-judge committee entrusted with deciding when the Court will open for regular physical hearings comprises Justices NV Ramana, Arun Mishra, DY Chandrachud, UU Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, Rohinton Fali Nariman

A resolution to this effect, which has been finalized over video conferencing, is currently doing the rounds to be signed by all the seven judges. The resolution states that no chance can be taken to open the courts for regular hearings, as the COVID-19 infection has shown no signs of abating.

The official in direct knowledge of the virtual meeting of the judges told Bar & Bench that the Court would remain closed from June 19 to July 6, and at a meeting held thereafter, the committee would decide if at all the courts can be opened for regular hearings. The virtual meeting was held on June 8, after hearings on that day concluded.

The Supreme Court of India has been functioning via video conferencing since March 24, under orders of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
