Kannur: Steps have been started for granting benefits from Employees Provident Fund Pension Scheme in accordance with the High Court Order at Kannur also. Kerala High Court on October 12th last had held that contributions could be made on actual salary so as to be eligible for proportionate pension. The action to allow higher pension to the petitioners is being initiated subsequent to the dismissal by SC, of an appeal filed by EPFO against this verdict.
In Kannur serving as well as retired employees from organizations like Keltron, Milma, Spinning Mills, Raidco (it may be Rubco, I feel) had secured favourable orders. Inspectors from PFO Kannur have started visiting these offices to verify the records. What were the actual salaries, and besides the contributions already made, how much additional contributions may have to be made is being examined.
The present move of PFO is subsequent to a few of contempt of court cases since SC has already ratified the verdict of High Court. Whosoever filed contempt of court petitions have all been granted higher pension. Trivandrum EPFO has started allowing higher pension to even those who did not file contempt of court cases. Kannur EPFO has started allowing the benefit without waiting for contempt of court petitions.
